CB Viladecans – FC Barcelona 4-5, 1-7
The FC Barcelona won the Catalonian duel against CB Viladecans, sweeping the two-game set in the Spanish Division de Honor last weekend. On Saturday Barca took a 5-0 lead through six innings, looking to secure an easy victory. However Viladecans threatened to come back in the ninth, rallying for four runs with one out. But with a runner on third the game ended with a loss for the home team. Jesus Golindano went 4-for-4 at the plate. In the ninth he got the remaining two outs on the mound, bailing out his pitching staff. Jason Friedman drove in two for Barcelona. Ricardo Hernandez (W 9-0) struck out eight in seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and five walks. Carlos Luis Amaro (L 4-5) issued ten hits, five runs and two bb in seven frames. He also K’ed eight.
In the second match on Sunday morning Jorge Balboa (W 8-0) went the distance leading Barcelona to a 7-1 victory. He gave up just a third-inning single, a run and three walks in nine impressive innings. He struck out eleven. He retired the last 15 batters in a row. Pau Sancho tripled and drove in four. Oscar Angulo and Jesus Golindano scored twice. Pol Llopis (L 3-4) surrendered seven hits, three runs and four bb in seven innings.
Astros Valencia – CD Pamplona 3-2, 12-3
The Astros Valencia recovered from their two shutout losses to the FC Barcelona with a pair of wins over CD Pamplona. In game one Aaron Hornostaj provided the winning run in a 3-2 victory with a solo homerun in the third. Isaac Palencia homered for Pamplona. On the mound Trevor Caughey (W 7-1) out-dueled Alexis Fumero (L 3-8). The former Baltimore Orioles minor leaguer struck out 19 batters in a complete game win, giving up two runs on eight hits and a walk. Fumero conceded eight hits, three runs and two bb in eight innings. He punched out nine.
In the second game Edgar Aineto went 4-for-4 with a homerun, a double and six RBI to lead the Astros to a 12-3 win. Whitney Robinson-Pierce also went deep, scored three times and drove in three. Pedro Pablo Belmonte (W 7-2) gave up five hits, a run and a walk in six innings. Alberto Casanellas (L 2-6) conceded 13 hits, nine runs and two bb in four innings.
San Inazio Bilbao – Halcones de Vigo 12-2 (8), 12-2 (7)
San Inazio Bilbao celebrated a pair of 12-2 wins over Halcones de Vigo this weekend. In game one, which lasted eight innings, Edward Adames and Kelvin Marianucci combined for seven hits, five runs and five RBI. Jose Romero (W 6-3) issued eight hits, a run and two walks in 6 2/3 innings, striking out nine. Jose Navas (L 2-6) gave up six hits, five runs (4 ER) and three bb in 4 1/3 frames.
In game two Asier Izaguirre hit a grand slam. Kelvin Marianucci doubled twice and drove in five. Javier Flores collected three RBI. Tony Alvarez and Edward Adames crossed the plate three times apiece. Domingo Morillo homered for Halcones. Alberto Magallon (W 4-6) allowed just one hits, two runs and three walks in 6 1/3 innings. Andoni Ortiz (L 2-1) gave up six hits, eleven runs and seven bb in 4 2/3 frames.
Baseball Navarra – CB Sant Boi 6-15, 1-4
Defending champion CB Sant Boi powered to two victories over Baseball Navarra this weekend. In game one Jose Manuel Salazar went a perfect 6-fo-6 at the plate to lead Sant Boi to a 15-6 win. Xavier Civit collected five hits, including a homerun to drive in four. Winston Marquez (W 1-1) struck out ten in six innings, allowing nine hits, five runs and two bb. Juan Jose Lopez (L 1-4) was charged with eight runs (7 ER) on eleven hits in four innings.
In the second game Lowin Sacramento (W 8-2) issued five hits, a run and four walks in nine innings to lead CB to a 4-1 victory and the sweep. Rafael Rivas went 2-for-2 with a homerun and two RBI, reaching base four times. Yorking Cespedes (L 2-2) allowed five hits, three runs (1 ER) and five bb in six innings.
Sevilla Red Sox – Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz 0-10 (7), 1-12 (7)
The Tenerife Marlins crushed the Sevilla Red Sox in both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday. In game one Leslie Nacar (W 1-0) struck out ten in six scoreless three-hit innings to lead the Marlins to a 10-0 shutout. Ruben Rijkhof and Giannini Benetti combined for five RBI. Richard Montiel scored three times. Marfi Lopez (L 0-2) surrendered six hits, five runs (4 ER) and four bb in three innings.
In the second game Richard Montiel homered and Ruben Rijkhof (3-3) scored four runs as Puerto Cruz stormed to a 12-1 victory. Yancarlo Franco drove in three. Yoel Hernandez (W 6-2) pitched five no-hit innings for the win, issuing just two walks. Sevilla avoided the no-hitter, by scoring one run on three hits against Miguel Rizo. Emili Lopez (L 1-8) gave up six hits, eight runs (5 ER) and five bb in three-plus innings.
