The FC BARCELONA ended the winning streak of the Division de Honor leader TENERIFE MARLINS after 24 games to start the 2009 season with a 7-4 win on game one of their doubleheader, which was played in nearby Viladecans due to the European Champions Cup Final Four. BARCA took the lead for good thanks to three runs in the sixth. Pau Sancho highlighted the rally with a two-run double after Jorge Miqueleiz had tied the contest with a RBI single. Daniel Sanchez, who had two triple, and Luis Perez drove in two apiece for PUERTO CRUZ. Homer Baez (W 10-2) and Leslie Nacar (L 11-1) each went the distance.

In part two of the twin bill BARCELONA overcame an early 0-2 deficit and again it was a two-run double by Pau Sancho (in the fourth), which was the turning point. Pedro Belmonte (W 11-0) pitched nine innings, allowing two runs on ten hits and a walk. Ivan Granados (L 9-1) gave up seven hits, four runs and three bb in 5 2/3 innings.

EL LLANO used a five-run rally in the ninth to overcome a 2-6 deficit en route to a 7-6 win over NAVARRA. A bases-clearing three-run triple by Jose Rafael Morales was the decisive hit. He drove in four overall. Luis Villanueva collected three RBI for the host. Elbis Alberto Avila (W 1-2) picked up the win with 3 1/3 scoreless one-hit innings of relief. Victor Martinez (L 1-1), who replaced Juan Jose Lopez in the ninth couldn’t stop the bleeding and took the loss.

In the second game the team from Gijon nearly pulled off the same stunt, scoring four runs in the last three frames after NAVARRA had built up an 8-3 lead after six innings. But Juan Miguel Marte (W 4-4) forced Emilio Perez into a game-ending double play to short, stranding the tying run on second. Ruben Fente (L 5-4) suffered the loss.

SAN INAZIO won game one of their doubleheader in VALENCIA thanks to a seven-run seventh with a final score of 13-1. Dirimo Chavez went three-for-four with three runs scored and a RBI. Asier Izaguirre drove in three. Fidel Mane (W 6-3) allowed one run on six hits in six innings, striking out six. Edward Adames (L 0-4) took the loss. Antonio Salazar had three hits for the ASTROS.

In the second match Dirimo Chavez hit a three-run homerun in the eighth to lead BILBAO to a 7-6 win. He scored three runs overall and reached four times. Andoni Ortiz (W 1-3) walked eight in just three-plus innings of relief, but still picked up the win, as he only allowed one run. Luis Galicia (L 1-4) took the loss.

HALCONES used RBI singles by Michel San Gil and Carlos Millan in the first and the fifth to beat VILADECANS 2-1 on game one of their two-game series. The Catalonian team cut the deficit in a half with a RBI double by Rafael Llames in the top of the eighth, but couldn’t get the tying run over the plate afterwards. Ronny Miguel Malave (W 5-4) allowed six hits, a run and a walk in nine innings for the win. He struck out seven. Delio Miguel Martinez (L 8-2) lost just for the second time this year, giving up four hits, two runs and four bb in seven innings.

Both teams settled for the split, as VILADECANS came away with a 4-1 win in the second match. Pol Llopis went the distance and conceded just a ninth-inning run on seven hits and two walks. Raul Perez scored three times and Miguel Catalan drove in two. Franklin Tavarez drove in the lone VIGO-run with a triple.

William Domero homered and drove in four in a 9-2 victory over PAMPLONA in game one of their doubleheader on Sunday. Milko Jaramillo scored three times. Oscar Alvarez (W 10-3) used the run support to pick up win number ten this year. He struck out seven in a complete game. Patrice Briones (L 2-3) suffered the loss.

In the second match SANT BOI completed the sweep with an 11-2 victory. Javier Jose Flores went three-for-three with three RBI. Three players drove in two each. Jaramillo once again crossed the plate three times. Jose Estebin Cruz (W 9-4) pitched six solid innings for the win. Daniel Celaya (L 0-3) lasted just 1 2/3 innings and took the loss.
