After a month-long break due to the Haarlem Baseball Week and the European Championship, the Dutch Hoofdklasse returned on Thursday evening with the clash between DOOR Neptunus and Konica Minolta Pioniers. The club from Rotterdam used an eight-run third to celebrate a 10-3 win, improving to 35-2 in 2010. The Pioniers remain in fourth place with 18 wins and 19 losses, leading HCAW Mr. Cocker by two games in the standings. Both teams face each other on Saturday.

On Thursday Konica Minolta actually had the better start, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a RBI groundout by Mark Duursma. But Neptunus answered in a big way two innings later. They sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on just four hits. The rally was highlighted by a bases clearing double by Marvin Bleij. Both teams were able to put two runs on the board afterwards, but it didn’t change the outcome.

Kevin Heijstek (W) allowed seven hits and three runs in six innings for the win. Shane Gnade (L) surrendered three hits, seven runs (1 ER) and three bb in 2 1/3 innings.
