North
Bonn Capitals – HSV Stealers 5-4, 3-2
The CAPITALS moved into sixth place in the northern division standings with two wins over the STEALERS. In game one the HSV took a fast 4-1 lead after three innings and three RBI by Kody Hightower. But the third hit by Thomas Hoffmann capped a four-run rally by BONN in the seventh en route to a 5-4 victory. Tim Henkenjohann struck out eleven in a complete game win. In the second match Martin Amparo out-dueled Jon Adamec for a 3-2 win for the CAPS.
Cologne Cardinals – Solingen Alligators 8-12, 0-15 (7)
The ALLIGATORS won both games in COLOGNE thanks to Matt Pali. The former Minor Leaguer hit three homeruns and drove in seven in game one to lead SOLINGEN to a 12-8 victory after being down 4-8 at the beginning of the seventh. In the second match Pali collected three more RBI besides the three runs apiece from Chris Beck and Florian Goetze in a 15-0 win, which was highlighted by a nine-run rally in the seventh. Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez struck out three in six scoreless innings.
Pulheim Gophers – Paderborn Untouchables 6-10, 3-4
The UNTOUCHABLES swept their last doubleheader of the regular season in PULHEIM thanks to a 10-6 and a 4-3 win. They will close out the preliminary phase with a make-up game in BONN next weekend.
South
Haar Disciples – Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 9-4, 10-0 (7)
It is probably the upset of the year in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. The DISCIPLES stunned not only their opponent BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE with two impressive wins on Sunday, but also the ATHLETICS, which now need to win at least one of the two make-up games next Saturday at home against the HEIDEKOEPFE to clinch the fourth playoff berth in the south. In game one HAAR took the lead thanks to three runs each in the third and the fourth en route to a 9-4 win. Ted Gieschen picked up his third win of the season, while Martin Almstetter lost for the first time. In the second match Eddie Aucoin (REG) allowed six runs to his former teammates in the first two frames of a 0-10 loss in seven innings. On the other side, HAAR’s Gregor Klinc issued just five hits in a complete game shutout. Only positive note for REGENSBURG: Klaus Hopfensperger collected his 500th hit in his Bundesliga career in game one.
Gauting Indians – Heidenheim Heidekoepfe 2-12 (7), 0-2
The HEIDEKOEPFE arrived late to the doubleheader in GAUTING, which cause a 30-minute delay at the beginning and could cost them the 12-2 win in seven innings in game one. Simon Guehring and Ryan Lilly homered for HEIDENHEIM. Markus Winkler picked up his seventh win of the year. Dominik Hartinger took the loss. In the second match Dusty Bergman out-dueled Chris Clem to lead the HEIDEKOEPFE to a 2-0 shutout. Both combined to allow just three base runners past second base with the only difference being the two runs by Guehring and Whitehead in the sixth and ninth.
