The Bracknell Blazers claimed a surprise split with runaway leaders London Mets in the only NBL action scheduled for Sunday 2 August.

The Mets cruised to a 7-1 victory in Game One, and were one win away from clinching first place on the season. Reed Wilson pitched a gem in the opener to take the win, while Bracknell’s Mike Cattermole enduring the loss.

But the Blazers hit back with an 8-6 victory in what proved to be a very ill-tempered Game Two. A hotly-disputed umpiring call in the fifth extending the Blazers inning, and they capitalized with home runs by Ryan Trask and Jamie Ford to grab the lead. Even worse for London, their catcher and coach were both ejected.

Mike Trask took the win for Bracknell, Callum Woods the London loss. Mets coach Alex Pike was seething after the game. Blazers coach Rob Rance was happier to look at the positives, saying “This is a massive boost for us and we need to build on it. We went through a really bad spell but we seem to have come out the other side. We have now earned the right to mix in with the better sides and this will put us in very good stead for the playoffs.”
