Recapping European Minor Leaguers (July 12 to 19)

Posted on July 21, 2010 by philipp

by Ty Eriksen

A new player makes our list this week: Scott Ronnenbergh of the Netherlands joined up with the Arizona League Mariners on the Fourth of July, and he has settled down since his first appearance. Scott has gone two innings in each of his last two appearances, allowing a single hit and a lone walk, while striking out three. Welcome to the list, Scott.

While Scott makes a splash, some others have gotten out of the pool. We trust they’ve made it home safe, and applaud them for their effort in the States; check below for the highlights of the last week.

Belgium

Thomas De Wolf (DSL Mets) Had a decent week, raising his average to .242, and tacked on some extra base hits, pushing his slugging percentage towards .400.

Czech Republic

Matej Hejma (GCL Twins) After getting into just one game in seven days, Hejma ended a 1- 16 slump by going 3-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB in his latest game.

France

Frederic Hanvi (GCL Twins) Had two sacrifices in two AB’s in his last game, but no hits for the week. Hitting .063, 0, 3 in 11 games.

Germany

Kai Gronauer (Port St. Lucie Mets) A 6-game hitting streak came to an end over the weekend, but Kai is hitting .308, 1, 9 in his 18 games after being called up, something the Mets must be excited about.

Donald Lutz (Billings Mustangs) Lutz is showing his maturity and ability this year, and the past week was no exception, and a 3-hit game and a 2-hit game, while even his worst appearances have him finding first (0-2, 2 BB, 1R). Lutz has to be smiling at these season numbers: hitting .307, slugging .520, 13 RBI’s in 20 games.

Max Kepler-Rozycki (GCL Twins) Put up 3 multi-hit games on the week, bringing his season totals to .239 (17-71), 0, 7 in 18 games.

Jennell Hudson (GCL Red Sox) Still out and recovering from elbow surgery, likely to miss the entire 2010 campaign.

Italy

Alex Liddi (West Tenn Diamond Jaxx) Four consecutive 2-hit games have raised his average to .272, and three consecutive games with a blast put him at 9 for the season. Most recently his 5-RBI game puts him at 64 on the season, second best in the Double-A Southern League. Could be a favorite for a late-season call up, given his solid season numbers and a post-all-star-break streak: .345, 3, 12 in the 7 games since the break.

Alessandro Maestri (Daytona Cubs) Picked up another win in relief this week, throwing 5.2 successful innings. Now posting a 3.86 ERA in 11.2 IP after moving to the Advanced-A FSL league.

Luca Martone (GCL Astros) One start in the past week: now hitting .083

Luca Panerati (Dayton Dragons) On DL to start the year.

Andrea Lucati (GCL Astros) Two relief appearances, both of which he’d like to forget. For the week: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, and one L.

Andrea Pizziconi (Yakima Bears): Another start for Andrea, cementing his transition into starter. Threw four great innings, the lone trouble a solo home run, but still punched out three. Has a 2.29 ERA in his 19.2 IP on the season.

Lithuania

Dovydas Neverauskas (GCL Pirates) No appearances to report for the week.

Netherlands

Gregory Halman (Tacoma Rainiers) Went yard three more times this week, which makes 22 in 66 games, and his 2-HR game makes him third in the league in home runs. The top club has taken notice, too. With a noticeable lack of production at the top level for Seattle, they are trying to find ways to get Halman some AB’s at the top.

Rick van den Hurk (New Orleans Zephyrs) The righty from Eindhoven won his last two starts, going 5 and 6 innings, posting nearly identical lines: 5 hits and a solo home run in each, 6 and 5 K’s, respectively. 6-4, 5.38 ERA in his 17 starts.

Loek van Mil (New Britain Rock Cats) Tallied his second loss of the season out of the pen in one of his three outings this week, a day he’d like to forget: .2 IP, 2 H, 5 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 0 K.

Mike Bolsenbroek (Lakewood BlueClaws) Two more scoreless relief appearances, lowering his ERA to 2.84. Has been a solid option for the BlueClaws in July, with just one earned run to his name in his six appearances.

Mariekson Gregorius (Dayton Dragons) Continues the success he had last week, with a couple more 2-hit games on his way to raising his line to .270, 4, 31.

Kalian Sams (Clinton LumberKings) Still struggling a bit at the plate, but finding ways to help his team win. Sams hit a 3-run blast against West Michigan in the eighth inning to seal the game.

Tom Stuifbergen (Beloit Snappers) Two starts after more than a month on the DL, and Stuifbergen is showing his stuff regardless of the pitch limit he’s on: 2 GS, 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 5 K.

Daan Cornelissen (GCL Pirates) Now hitting .130 in 19 games for the Pirates Rookie affiliate.

Jeroen de Haas (AZL Mariners) Took the loss after one bad inning of relief this week, in which three hits and a walk lead to two earned runs and a short outing.

Swen Huijer (GCL Red Sox) Picked up an unlikely win after giving up two runs in a single inning pitched. Bounced back with a three and one-third inning performance in which he allowed no earned runs.

Rien Vernooij (GCL Mets) A couple starts over the last week, but unable to find any green, going 0-8 with no significant line.

Björn Hato (DSL Mets) May be hitting just .250, but has a .455 OBP and has found home 9 times in 19 games.

Ruben Rijkhof (DSL Braves) Just four games to his credit, the 18 year old is battling for more playing time to show his stuff.

Kevin Weijgertse (DSL Mets) Batting .122 in regular time for the Mets in the Dominican.

Scott Ronnenbergh (AZL Mariners) 3.86 ERA in his 4.2 IP so far this season.

Russia

Andrei Lobanov (Beloit Snappers) A few more appearances to report for the southpaw who is on his third assignment of the season: 4 IP over three appearances for the week, allowing just one run on one hit, with 8 K’s.  Holding a steady 1.93 ERA in his 6 games with the new club.

Spain

Alejandro Sanchez (GCL Braves) Went 0-2 in his latest chance to start, but picked up his first RBI of the season.

Eric Gonzalez (Lake Elsinore Storm) Mixed bag of results in his two stints this week: 1.2 scoreless innings on Sunday, 2 IP and 2 R on Monday.

Deoin Galvan (DSL Braves) Hitting .150 over 17 games, still seeing most of his time as a late-inning defensive replacement.

Roberto Machado (DSL Braves) Has yet to appear in a game since the beginning of June.

Victor Velazquez (DSL Braves) Also seeing his name left off the line-up card this month; no field time since June.
