This past weekend The Therwil Flyers were challenged with the task of playing 4 games in 2 days to finish up the regular season. The Flyers proved up to the challenge and then some as they dispatched of both the Zurich Lions on Saturday and the Luzerne Eagles in convincing fashion on Sunday.
Zurich: Game 1
The Flyers rapped out fifteen hits as they went on to beat the Lions 22-7. Sebastian Zwyer picked up the win after he pitched 6 1/3 innings. Offensively, 8 out of the 9 Flyer batters collected at least one hit and they needed 7 innings to finish the game due to the “Mercy-rule”.
Game 2
The Flyers took advantage of shaky defense by the Lions. The Flyers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and cruised throughout the entire game. Ianis Bouteloup threw a complete game shutout and was fully in control all 8 innings. Stefan Koller led the offense by going 3-4 with a stolen base. The final score of game two was 10-0.
Lucerne: Game 1
Game 1 was pretty tight until a 9 run 5th inning gave the flyers breathing room and crushed an hope that Lucerne had of keeping the game close. Both Daniel Eichenberger and Michel La Torre collected two hits on the way to a 12-0 win. Stefan Koller kept the Eagles off balance and scattered 3 hits in 7 innings.
Game 2
The second game followed the trend of “Mercy-rule” wins, 13-3. Takanobu Oshima had a great game as he reached base three times, stole three bases, and scored three times. Sebastian Zwyer collected three hits, as well.
Looking ahead to the playoffs, it seems that the Flyers will face Embrach in the semifinals. Those dates are yet to be determined.
