Stade Toulousain – Rouen Huskies 4-3, 2-3
After two close games Stade Toulousain and the Rouen Huskies settled for a split in the French Elite League on Sunday. In game one Euri Garcia-Martinez (TOU, 8 IP, 1 R, 4 K) and Mike Musgrave (ROU, 7 IP, 10 K) were locked into a pitcher’s duel early with the outcome being decided in the last two frames. Rouen had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth, but Toulouse came back in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a two-run single by Anthony Paz.
The Huskies answered with two runs in the top of the ninth to regain a 3-2 lead. It was not enough. Stade Toulousain loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the inning. During the following 1-2-3 double play attempt the throw of catcher Boris Marche went into right field and two runners scored to give the home team a 4-3 win.
In the second match, Marche put Rouen ahead with a two-run double in the opening period. They added a run thanks to a sac fly by Musgrave in the sixth, before Stade Toulousain cut the deficit to a run in the seventh. But this time it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Paris UC – Montigny Cougars 0-9, 13-12
Paris UC and the Montigny Cougars also settled for a split. In game one Justin Fry dominated and Montigny led 5-0 after eight innings when a player of PUC got ejected. And due to the lack of eligible alternatives on the bench, they had to forfeit the game. The second part of the doubleheader turned out to be a slugfest with Paris prevailing 13-12 after Montigny had erased a late 8-11 deficit.
