Tim Jones tosses a complete game gem for the Embrach Mustangs
The Embrach Mustangs prevailed in a battle versus the Zurich Barracudas 4-3 in Embrach on Saturday and southpaw Tim Jones earned the complete game win his 9th win of the year. Jones has been brilliant this year on the mound for the Mustangs who move to 19-5 on the season while the Barracudas drop to 14-11 and now face a battle with the Zurich Challengers for the final playoff spot.
The Mustangs scored first when Harry Wischnewski reached first base on an infield error and then proceeded to steal second base on the next pitch. Josh Crouse who has been clutch hitter all year delivered a double to score Wischnewski making it 1-0 Mustangs. The Barracudas would bounce right back in the top of the fourth inning when Dan Rogers led off with a line drive single and was able to advance to third base on passed balls and scored on an infield out to tie the game and make it 1-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning Bruno Albrecht led off with a line drive up the middle and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Chris Byrnes then hit a single down the left field line scoring Albrecht to make the score 2-1 Mustangs. A few innings later the Barracudas tied the score when Marc Oboussier led off with a double and moved to third base on a passed ball. Tim Jones struck out the next batter and with the infield playing in to cut off the runner from third Barracuda catcher Strahil Georgiev singled up the middle to even the score 2-2
The Mustangs broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh inning with their veteran players Roger Savoldelli and Chris Byrnes all 92 years behind them. Byrnes led off the inning with a line drive single to right center field and then pinch hitter Savoldelli deliver a single to place runners on first and second. Carl Hutchinson then hit a hard ground ball in between third and shortstop and Ueli Von Burg made a nice force play at third base for the first out of the inning. The next batter Wischnewski squared to bunt and Savoldelli and Hutchinson took off running and successfully executed a double steal. With runners on 2nd and 3rd base with one out the Barracudas brought the infield in but Wischnewski had other ideas, he laced a line drive to center field scoring the two runs the Mustangs needed to put this game away.
In the ninth inning the Barracudas third baseman Marc Oboussier led off again with a long double and advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on an infield out to make the the score 4-3. Jones would strike out the last Barracuda for the complete game victory his 9th on the season. The Mustangs will travel to Therwil next week for another tough battle versus the Therwil Flyers who moved to 17-5 by beating the Barracudas on Sunday.
