Randall Simon joins Rockford River Hawks

Simon celebrates after homerun in European Baseball Series in GodoFormer big leaguer Randall Simon (picture, right) is joining the independent Northern League club Rockford River Hawks for the upcoming season. The 34-year-old played for the Dutch National Team in the World Baseball Classic and the Baseball World Cup last year.

In 2009 he already was part of a Northern League club, batting .281 (OBP .317/SLG .452) with 13 homeruns, 42 runs and 51 RBI in 75 games for the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks. Simon spent eight seasons in the MLB, playing for six teams.

Rockford, which played in the Frontier League until last season, will open against the Schaumburg Flyers on May 20th. They even have scheduled a bobble head night for their new acquisition. On July 16th you can take the figure back home.
