Rain has hit the Australian Baseball League for a second straight weekend. Just three of six planned games went on. The other three had to be postponed. But it was a successful day for a European player. German Reds minor leaguer Donald Lutz lifted the Canberra Cavalry to a 6-1 seven-inning victory over the Adelaide Bite, the third win in the third game of the series. Being the DH he went 3-for-3 with his first ABL homerun, a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Dutch shortstop Mariekson Gregorius was 1-for-4. Part two of the doubleheader got rained out, but will not be made up on Sunday.
The weather was better in Perth, where the Heat and the Brisbane Bandits settled for a split in a twin-bill. In game one in the afternoon former Gauting Indians shortstop Brad Dutton hit a two-run single in the top of the twelfth to lead Brisbane to a 3-1 win. Perth avoided the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the night cap of the doubleheader. They blew a 2-0 lead later in the game, but Brandon Dale saved the day with a walk-off homerun in the ninth. The two-game set between the Sydney Blue Sox and the Melbourne Aces got rained out. Both teams will try again on Sunday.
