Technika Brno – Bern Cardinals 10-1, 14-0
Technika Brno used two lopsided wins on Saturday to overcome a 0-1 deficit against the Bern Cardinals en route to the Qualifier title in Attnang-Puchheim. Their second trophy in as many years. Bern had won the preliminary game by a score of 9-5 on Thursday for the 1-0 advantage in the finals.
In game one on Saturday Technika scored all ten runs between second and sixth in a 10-1 win. Matt Lawman (3 RBI) and Michal Koci hit homeruns. Three players scored twice for Brno. Roger Deago (W) struck out 16 batters in nine innings, allowing six hits, a run and two walks. Former Major Leaguer Eduardo Villacis (L) was charged with eight runs (3 ER) on eight hits in five innings.
In the decisive rubber match Brno took a quick 5-0 lead after three innings and blew things wide open with four runs in the seventh and five in the ninth. Matt Lawman and Jiri Marek combined for six hits, two homeruns, six runs and eight RBI. Daniel Mraz went 5-for-5 at the plate. On the mound Steven Chambers struck out eleven in nine scoreless innings. He issued just four hits and five walks. John Baum (L) conceded eight hits, five runs and three bb in six innings.
