The PULHEIM GOPHERS, which have to defend their spot in the northern division of the German Baseball-Bundesliga, won game one of the best-of-three series against the 2nd Baseball-Bundesliga representative BERLIN SLUGGERS by a final score of 6-5.
The 16-year-old left-hander Sebastian Theobald went seven strong innings for PULHEIM, allowing just three runs. The GOPHERS still had to wait until the bottom of the ninth to decide the outcome. Trailing 4-5 going into the last frame, they loaded the bases with no outs. Merlin Mendel tied the game with a RBI single. Chris Gentles followed with the walk-off hit into right field to seal the victory.
Games two and possible three are scheduled for Saturday, September 26th in Berlin.
