Pulheim Gophers
The German Baseball-Bundesliga club Pulheim Gophers announced on Wednesday that they have signed Ronnie Glunt to strengthen the pitching staff and to add another powerful option to the offense. He had attended the NCAA Division II Alderson Broaddus College in West Virginia. He is going to be the third foreign player on the roster, after Pulheim already confirmed Daniel Lamb-Hunt and Lee Roberts for 2011. The Gophers also announced the first preseason dates:
- March 5: vs. Mainz Athletics
- March 12: @ Cologne Cardinals
- March 13: vs. Cologne Cardinals
- March 20: vs. Solingen Alligators
Berlin Sluggers
The promoted Berlin Sluggers announced their first acquisition for the upcoming season in the northern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga. 27-year-old outfielder Valentin Hufen is going to play for Berlin in 2011. He is a former member of the German Junior National Team with whom he played at the 2001 European Championship in Barcelona. He also already has three seasons Baseball-Bundesliga on his resume, having taking the field for the Mainz Athletics in 2002, 2004 and 2005. In 20 games at the top level in German Baseball he batted .233/.378/.233. He hasn’t played much in the past years, but wants to resurrect his baseball career.
