Preview Spanish Honor Division Part One

The Marlins Puerto Cruz won the second straight Spanish title last year. They lost just one game and stayed in front of the FC Barcelona and CB Sant Boi, who finished also on the podium. Rivas Ciudad Del Deporte from Madrid was relegated, winning just four games.

The Offseason in Spain was quiet eventful. The league shrank from twelve to nine teams. The eighth ranked club Hercules L’Hospitalet had to follow Rivas into the second division due to a new rule, requiring a grass surface in all ballparks. The three squads CD Amaya, CAD Irabia and CD Arga went together to form a new organization, called Baseball Navarre. Another new face in the Honor Division comes from Valencia. The Astros were promoted after winning 17 of 24 games and the Second Division Championship.

The league Lineup of nine teams it requires a format change for the 2008 season. There are still no playoffs planned. They are going to play a double round robin with each game day consisting of four doubleheaders. Every week, one of the nine will have a bye-date.
