The German Baseball-Bundesliga returns with week three this weekend. Six doubleheaders will be played on Saturday, the seventh on Sunday. In the north most of the eyes will be on the matchup between the Cologne Cardinals against the Solingen Alligators. After last week’s rainout the promoted Cards will have to prove against the Alligators that their impressive season opener against the Dortmund Wanderers wasn’t a fluke. Meanwhile Dortmund travels north to the Dohren Wild Farmers, which hope for at least another split to solidify their position in the standings. The HSV Stealers will face their third favorite in consecutive weeks, as they go to Bonn for a duel with the Capitals. The Berlin Sluggers face the Untouchables Paderborn.
In the south the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg will have a bye in week three. It is going to be an interesting game day, as playoff hopefuls square off in two twin bills. On Saturday the Haar Disciples will host the Mainz Athletics. Both teams had 3-1 starts and two close games are expected. Additionally two winless teams will play each other in Bad Homburg with the Hornets and Stuttgart Reds. However the promoted Reds are deeply favored, as they impressed in all four games so far. Week three will be completed on Sunday with the Mannheim Tornados taking on the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe. The rematch of the 2009 finals is usually a guarantee for drama.
