Preview: Defending Champion Vienna Metrostars opens ABL Season in Attnang-Puchheim

Posted on April 13, 2012April 13, 2012 by philipp

The Austrian Baseball League will get under way on Saturday, when defending champion Vienna Metrostars travels to Attnang-Puchheim with a matchup against the GEI Athletics. It is going to be an interesting matchup on Opening Day. The other six teams Vienna Wanderers, Stock City Cubs, Dornbirn Indians, Vienna Diving Ducks, Union Kufstein Vikings and Tigers Schwaz will enter the competition next weekend.

The ABL is in a season of transition in 2012, as the league will be reduced to six teams in 2013. Nothing changes for the top four after the regular season, which will battle for the ABL crown in the playoffs. However while the fifth-ranked team will secure its spot in the ABL, teams in sixth, seventh and eighth will have to play a relegation round with the second-division champion, trying to get the final spot.

Schedule:
Saturday, April 14:
13:00 GEI Athletics Attnang-Puchheim – Vienna Metrostars (DH)
