Preseason results from Europe

The preseason in Europe picked up some speed. More and more games are going to be played. Most of the time the results are not important. But in Spain the Catalonia Championship and the Apertura Tournament is getting attention.

The FC Barcelona swept the doubleheader against Hercules L’Hospitalet with two shutouts. The won the championship with five wins out of six games. It is the first title for new manager Aldo TARIFE. Jonathan GARCIA, Homer BAEZ, Andoni ORTIZ, Guillem MARTI, Joan MAYORAL and Jordi VALLES appeared on the mound for Barca.

Three Honor Division clubs merged to “Baseball Navarra” this winter. They already have won their first trophy, winning the Torneo Apertura staying undefeated in four games. They beat Pamplona A 4-3 to decide the final standings. German ARROYO, Alberto ESPANOL (4 IP, 7 SO), Juan LOPEZ appeared on the mound for Navarra. Patrice BIRONES, Carlos LEON and Daniel CELAYA pitched for the defeated team.

San Inazio Bilbao, which finished third, won a pitching duel against Pamplona B. Pedro BELMONTE (5 IP, 8 SO), Tomas ZUAZOLA and Sergio ATXA. Alexis FUMERO impressed with six strikeouts in five innings for Pamplona.

There are not many details for the remaining preseason games. There are a few, but not much. Check the known scores.
