#Premier12 Pool B: Jae Gyun Hwang homers twice to lead South Korea past Venezuela

After being shut out on Sunday against Japan and during the first six innings against the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, South Korea now has scored 23 runs in a span of nine innings for a second straight blowout. On Thursday they defeated Venezuela 13-2 in seven innings – the first ten-run rule shortened game in the Premier12. South Korea improved to 2-1 in Pool B in first-round play, Venezuela dropped to 1-2.

South Korea was led by Jae Gyun Hwang who went 4-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored and three RBI. He capped a three-run rally in the first with a RBI single and initiated big innings in the fourth and fifth with solo shots. Hyun Soo Kim added two hits and three RBI. Juan Apodaca and Gregorio Petit provided the two lone runs for Venezuela with a solo home run and a RBI single in the third.

Daeeun Rhee went five innings, allowing six hits, two runs and a walk, while striking out six for the win. Kyu Min Woo and Tae Yang Lee closed it out with a pair of scoreless frames. Carlos Monasterio issued four hits, three runs and a base on balls to the seven batters he faced before being replaced with two outs in the first.

Both teams will have Friday off due to a scheduled rest day at the Premier12. On Saturday South Korea will take on Mexico at Tienmu Stadium in Taipei City in the evening, while Venezuela faces the Dominican Republic in Taoyuan in the afternoon.
