Team USA rebounded from its loss to Venezuela of the day before with a 10-0 shutout over Mexico on Thursday evening at Tienmu Stadium in Taipei City. It was the second win in three games for the US, while Mexico suffered its second loss in the first round at the Premier12. The team of manager Willie Randolph ended the contest due to ten-run rule in the eighth.

The United States dominated from the start, scoring four runs in the first three innings for an early lead. Six more runs between the sixth and the eighth ended the contest via mercy rule. Matt McBride led the way by going 5-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. Adam Frazier added three hits and two runs. Elliot Soto and Bret Eibner also scored twice. Humberto Sosa had two of the four Mexican hits.

On the mound Zack Segovia cruised through six innings, allowing four hits and a walk, while striking out four. He faced just three batters over the minimum. Brooks Pounders and Jake Barrett closed out the shutout. Miguel Pena got charged with the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits and four base on balls in 5 1/3 innings.

After the off day on Friday Saturday’s game day will feature the highly anticipated matchup at the Premier12 between Japan and the United States. Mexico will face South Korea.
