PONY League to play Qualifier in Spain for European Qualifier from September 16 to 18

Press Release PONY Baseball

PONY Baseball is proud to announce, for the first time, a Pony and Colt tournament will be held as a qualifier for April’s European Championships in Prague, Czech Republic. Hosted by El Llano Baseball Club in Gijon and La Morgal, Spain, PONY teams representing three different European countries will participate in games spanning three days in hopes of advancing to Prague.

“It is the 30th anniversary for our club, so we wanted to begin something good,” said Roberto Diaz, President of El Llano Baseball Club.“We have had experience in international tournaments, so this will be a continuous learning experience for us. It’s the first edition, and we’ll grow slowly, but we want to expand PONY in Europe.”

El Llano has already received commitments from PONY teams in Great Britain, Portugal and France to participate, and the host organization will hold 24 games across the two age divisions from September 16-18. All games will be electronically scored online, and links to those games will be available online as the tournament approaches so fans can follow the gamecasts around the world.

Additionally, El Llano is planning to host a Bronco age division European Championship Tournament in late September, early October. Additional information about the tournament will be announced at a later date.

“For us here in Europe, it is an exciting moment to see this first year of the testing event in Spain,” said Jan Bagin, PONY European Zone Director. “I look forward to meeting the organizers, teams and talk about the future of such tournaments as a next step forward within Europe. Since Gijon and El Llano Baseball club were already organizers of several European tournaments, we believe this team of organizers will do their best to make the tournament a top event for teams from Spain, France and Great Britain.”
