Polish Ekstraliga Week 3: Kutno with Another Commanding Sweep, Zory in the Win Column

Kutno ran its winning streak to four with another two-game sweep, while the Leopards (Gepardy) of Zory ended a three-game losing streak against Warszawa. Silesia and Osielsko made for a second sweep of the three series on May 8-9.

Little is available since our last update on the Polish baseball circuit, with two series in Week 2 postponed and no information available on the third matchup for the Labor Day weekend. Wroclaw outdid Kutno’s opening weekend opponents by scoring in each of its games against the “Steel” (Stal), but Kutno was little troubled in 9-2 and 11-1 victories, scoring 20 runs for its second-straight series. In the latter of the two games, the Barons’ run was scored when Hubert Marcinkowski took Jakub Nadolski yard, the only blemish against the latter in five innings. Nadolski struck out four and gave up four total hits.

Warszawa took both games over Weekend No. 1 and claimed a 3-1 win over Zory as the third week commenced. In a low-scoring series, though, the Leopards claimed a 5-3 victory in Game Two.

Elsewhere, Osielsko’s tough start continued as the men from Rybnik won 13-7 and 6-1. Silesia posted an eight-run second in Game One thanks to multiple Osielsko errors. In the fifth, Paweł Zagórski ripped a two-run homer for the “Oaks” (Dęby), who then drew seven straight walks to narrow the margin to 8-7. Patryk Sawicki was aces in relief, shutting down the Dęby in 2.1 shutout frames to close the game.

Game Two was all Rybnik, as Robert Stiles nailed a runner at the plate in the top of the first before Robert Stęchłego tripled and scored. Adrian Mularczyk was equal to the challenge, settling down after the two hits in the opening frame and not allowing a hit the rest of the game. The Silesians swiped 15 bases in the two games, and Rybnik moved into a tie for second in the Polish baseball standings.
