Playing Games in Europe still a Priority for Major League Baseball

Posted on November 13, 2015November 13, 2015 by philipp

Speaking to reporters at the general managers meetings in Boca Raton, Florida, MLB’s Chief Legal Officer Dan Halem said that Major League Baseball hopes to play regular season games in Europe within the next five years even though “nothing certainly has been planned yet.”

“I think Rob has said publicly that Mexico is a priority of ours, in terms of further developing it as a baseball market,” Halem said in comments reported by MLB.com.

.

“Europe is also a priority although nothing has been planned yet, but I think it’s the Commissioner’s goal to hope to be able to play regular-season games in both Mexico and Europe, certainly over the next five years.

.

“Expanding internationally, I think the view is the more you play in these countries on a continual basis, rather than going to a country one year and then waiting five years to return, is better in terms of developing baseball.”

Honkbalsite.com speculates that the facility of the Vaessen Pioniers in Hoofddorp should be a serious candidate, but also says that MLB might look to London after NFL and NBA had success with regular season games there.
