Godo Knights
The Italian Baseball League club Godo Knights is adding some depth to its pitching staff. They are bringing back Danny Forte for a second year and have signed Johnny Rumenos from the Serie A2 club Italmet Marina. Forte is 21 years old and came from the Venezuelan Liga Paralela to Italy last winter.
In twelve appearances for Godo he had an ERA of 9.00, while striking out 13 batters in 21 innings (19 walks). The right-hander likely is also going to see time at the IBL2 affiliate in Verona. Rumenos is 32 years old and had a 4-6 record with an ERA of 3.03 in 16 games (13 starts) for Marina last season. He struck out 64 in 89 innings, walking 40.
Catania Warriors PaternĂ²
The Catania Warriors have signed the 25-year-old outfielder Daniel Santolupo. The former member of various Italian youth national teams began his baseball career in his home town Aprilia before moving to Anzio, where he played since besides a two-year stint with San Giacomo Nettuno. In 2009 he batted .298 (OBP .411/SLG .362) with five extra base hits, 37 runs and 27 RBI for the Serie A2 team. He will compete with Giuseppe Sciacca for a spot as a starting outfielder.
Danesi Nettuno
Two teammates of Santolupo at Anzio last year will play for Danesi Nettuno this season. The IBL club officially announced the signing of Enzo Sanna and Vinicio Sparanga. Sparanga originally was supposed to join Montepaschi Grosseto, but skipped out of an agreement with the 2007 Italian champion. He batted .365 (OBP .511/SLG .635) with three homeruns, 17 extra base hits overall, 27 runs and 37 RBI in 32 games last year.
Sanna led the Serie A2 with a .461 batting average (OBP .594/SLG .591) and 39 RBI. He also collected 13 extra base hits and scored 42 times. The 27-year-old already has played in the IBL for Anzio and Grosseto, batting .249 (OBP .340/SLG .322) in 312 games between 2000 and 2006.
