Play Global sent two expert coaches to Uganda this month. They will focus on training baseball coaches and players in seven locations over three weeks.
Sam Dempster and Pat Doyle will teach positive coaching, baseball skills and practice planning to Ugandan coaches. Then they will lead practices and games where coaches can put these lessons to work.
Coach Dempster is eager to return to Uganda for the third time. He will not only to teach Ugandan coaches, but also to learn from them.
“Knowledge is not a nail you can drive,” he said, “it is best conveyed in an environment of mutual respect whether in Uganda, the USA or Canada.”
Baseball provides a chance for youth in Uganda to be a part of a team, learn self-confidence and have fun. While many of these kids grow up with very little, their enthusiasm for baseball is great. Play Global’s goal aims to strengthen baseball in Uganda, so that it can be a part of kids’ lives for years to come.
