Just a couple days after Dovydas Neverauskas, the Pittsburgh Pirates will make baseball history again. They are calling up infielder Gift Ngoepe to the big leagues for Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs. The South African would become the first Africa-born player in the MLB when he is making his debut. Last fall the Pirates added him to the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old was batting .241/.308/.379 in 15 games in Triple-A this year. He is considered a defensive wizard and is supposed to give the Pirates some depth after the injury to David Freese.
