The pitching coach of the L&D AMSTERDAM PIRATES is leaving the club midway through the first round of the Hoofdklasse playoffs. Tom Geestman asked for his immediate leave after the Sunday’s loss to DOOR NEPTUNUS and the withdrawal was announced on the team website on Tuesday. Reasons for walking out are different opinions regarding the team policy of the selection of pitchers.
Head coach Rikkert Faneyte said that he is not happy about it. But he respects the decision and is optimistic that AMSTERDAM can come back in the series on the upcoming weekend. They are trailing NEPTUNUS 1-2 in the best-of-five series. Under Geestman’s leadership the PIRATES pitching staff had a team ERA of 3.41 this season, an improvement in comparison to 2007 (3.78).
