The PIRATES used a whopping 13-run fourth inning to pound the ORKAS 17-4 on Monday in the Venezuelan Liga Paralela. Johan Silva was the most productive bat of PITTSBURGH, going three for three with a homerun, two runs scored and six RBIs. Elevis Gonzalez scored four times. Gemmy Gonzalez homered too. Gerson Manzanillo and Edison Martinez (3 RBI) hit homeruns for the ALB. Only two more players from the ORKAS had hits, Deivis Freites and David Rivas.
Alexis Fumero (L 0-1) got the start for the BBC. He went 3 1/3 innings before being pulled after conceding seven hits, six runs (5 ER) and four walks, while striking out four. Gustavo Suecum (0.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R) and Shane Gnade (0.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, HR, BB) also appeared in the horrible fifth period. Kevin Fuenmayor, who was the fourth pitcher in the frame finally stopped the PITTSBURGH offense.
PIRATES pitching gave up just one hit and three walks over the first seven innings. Starter Yomar Pacheco only blemish was the solo shot by Manzanillo. Berbis Bandres (W 1-1) picked up the win for four perfect innings of relief.
