Perth Heat moved into first place in the Australian Baseball League on Friday. After opening week four with a victory on Thursday, they downed Adelaide Bite also one day later thanks to four RBI combined by Allan De San Miguel and Mathew Kennelly. Daniel Schmidt went seven six-hit innings for the win. Darren Fidge took the loss. Brno’s Wayne Ough allowed five runs in three hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings of relief for Adelaide.
Perth also profited by the 1-6 loss by former leader Sydney Blue Sox against the Brisbane Bandits. Josh Roberts homered and drove in two. David Sutherland went 3-for-4 with two RBI. James Albury (W 2-0) issued four hits, a run and two bb in six innings for the win. Wayne Lundgren (L 2-2) took the loss, surrendering eight hits and four runs in five innings. The home opener of the Melbourne Aces against Canberra Cavalry was rained out and will be made up on Sunday as part of a doubleheader. Mariekson Gregorius was in the starting lineup for Canberra as the second baseman, Donald Lutz in right field.
