The Greek Championship finished this past weekend and the new Greek Champion is: PANATHINAIKOS B.C.
This was the first year in which Panathinaikos fielded a baseball team. This team was primarily comprised of players from the disbanded SPARTAKOS A.S. team, but it also included several new players who wanted to be part of the Panathinaikos baseball team.
The final standings of the Greek league for 2014 are:
1st Place: PANATHINAIKOS B.C.
2nd Place: MAROUSI 2004
3rd Place: EVRYALY
4th Place: ARIS
5th Place: MILONAS
6th Place: OLYMPIADA
7th Place: LEADERS*
8th Place: DIAS
The best of 5 championship finals brought PANATHINAIKOS and last year’s champions MAROUSI 2004 together to determine the Greek champion for 2014. Unfortunately, internal issues and internal bickering amongst the players and administration of the Marousi team resulted with the unprecedented forfeiture of the championship to PANATHINAIKOS. The Marousi team simply did not show up to play in each of the first 3 scheduled games and Panathinaikos won each of those games by the standard forfeit score of 9 – 0.
