On Wednesday DOOR NPETUNUS lost their best pitcher on the team, when the Toronto Blue Jays signed Leon Boyd to a minor league contract. Obviously they don’t have a replacement for him in place. However on Tuesday a new outfielder/catcher arrived to play for the Hoofdklasse in 2009.
The 23-year-old Matt McGraw joins NEPTUNUS after playing one season in the Central Ontario Baseball Major League in Canada. He batted .398 (OBP .479/SLG .561) with two homeruns, 14 doubles, 39 runs scored and 17 RBI in 32 games. He also stole 30 bases for his hometown Burlington Brants. He won the rookie of the year award and was named to the all-star team.
McGraw is an alumni of the University of Maine, batting .315 (SLG .441) with 13 homeruns, nine triples, 32 doubles, 39 stolen bases, 149 runs scored and 99 RBI in 200 games during his four-year college career. He was a catcher in the first three seasons, before moving to the outfield for his senior year.
