The ORKAS stopped their streak of three straight losses on Thursday, when they beat the TIGERS thanks to a run in the bottom of the ninth 10-9. The slugfest went back and forth. The ALB took a 4-1 advantage in the first, but trailed 6-8 after five, when DETROIT rallied for seven runs between the fourth and fifth. The ORKAS came back with three runs in the eighth. The TIGERS tied the contest for a last time in the top of the ninth, before losing in the bottom half of the frame.
Israel Diaz (3-3) and Melvin Gutierres (3-4, 3 RBI) each had three hits, including a homerun. Gabriel Montero doubled and drove in three. Gerson Manzanillo and Jose Aponte scored two runs apiece. Bryon Bell had a single in five at bats. Sytse Visbsen started and first base and went hitless in two at bats. Ricky Thomas walked twice. DETROIT had four homeruns in the game. Luis Salas got three RBIs, Alexander Moreno two.
Kevin Alarcon started for the ORKAS and allowed five runs on seven hits, three homeruns and a walk. He struck out four in four-plus innings. Jurjen van Zijl replaced him and conceded three runs on five hits in two innings of relief. He punched out three. Luis Camacaro (W 2-1) picked up the win.
The ORKAS now are 14-9 and face the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES on Friday and the LEONES on Saturday.
