Olympics Baseball: Cuba meets with Korea in Final

Posted on August 23, 2008August 23, 2008 by philipp

After two thrilling but not dramatic semi-finals Cuba and Korea will meet on Saturday in the gold medal game. The Asian team was among the favorites, but nobody would have expected that they are still undefeated after eight days of Olympics Baseball. However, Cuba is still the favorite despite the fact that they lost to Korea in the preliminary round. They are going to play their 50th consecutive final at one of the five big international tournaments (Olympics, World Cup, Pan American Games, Intercontinental Cup and World Baseball Classic). A pretty impressive streak. And now they can defend their gold medal of 2004. Hopefully this is not the last time we’ll see Baseball at the Olympic Games.

Results, August 22:
Semi-Final 1: Korea – Japan 6-2 Recap
Semi-Final 2: Cuba – USA 10-2 Recap

Schedule:
10:30 Bronze Medal Game: USA – Japan
18:00 Gold Medal Game:  Korea – Cuba
