Oakland Athletics General Manager Billy Beane has been hired by Dutch soccer club AZ Alkmaar as special advisor.
“I am truly excited for the opportunity to be part of AZ Alkmaar in an advisory role,” says Beane via ESPN FC. “Despite being a great football club with a storied history, they face many of the challenges we have with the Oakland A’s. My love for football and AZ’s vision of the future of the club made this an attractive pursuit.”
Beane will remain with the A’s, but will travel several times this year to the Netherlands. Alkmaar has a very innovative and unorthodox approach recently, which also included the appointment of former KNBSB Technical Director Robert Eenhoorn as manager.
