North wins Hoofdklasse All Star Game / Van Heydoorn HR Derby

Led by MVP Phil Ortez the North won the Dutch Hoofdklasse All Star Game with a 13-9 win over the South on Sunday at Pim Mulier Stadium in Haarlem. Five runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a home run of Percy Isenia, decided the outcome late. Ortez led the way with three hits, a home run, two runs and two RBI. Rudy van Heydoorn (3-3, 4 RBI) clubbed two home runs for the South. Kenny Berkenbosch and Rafael Jozefa also went deep in the slugfest. With the victory the North evened the series, winning for the second time after 2011. The South prevailed in 2010 and 2012.

Prior to the All Star Game, eight players participated in the Home Run Derby. Rudy van Heydoorn succeeded Bryan Engelhardt as home run king, hitting a whopping 23 home runs during the competition. Percy Isenia came in at second. He set a record with 14 long balls in a single round. Ferd van Stekelenburg, Raily Legito, Kenny Berkenbosch, Randy Daal, Quintin de Cuba and Jeffrey Arends also participated. Engelhardt didn’t participated in this year’s Hoofdklasse All Star festivities.
