Paderborn Untouchables – Solingen Alligators 8-4, 2-4
Two series ended in Paderborn on Sunday. The UNTOUCHABLES defeated the ALLIGATORS in game one of the doubleheader 8-4 and stopped the 19-game-winning streak to start the season. However their own streak of 13 victories in a row broke up in the second part, when they lost 2-4. Nonetheless both teams showed with their performance that they are clearly the best of the northern conference.
PADERBORN started strong into the first match of the afternoon and chased Andre Hughes (L 8-1) after three innings. They already led 7-0 on their way to an 8-4 win. Despite closing the gap to 4-7 in the eighth and loading the bases, SOLINGEN failed to complete the comeback. Eugen Heilman (W 11-1) started for the U’s and received his eleventh victory of the year.
Game two saw the duel between Beningo Ozuna (PAD) and Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez (W 9-0). Marquez-Ramirez dominated with seven strikeouts in the first four frames, but ran into trouble in the fifth, when five hits by PADERBORN led to two runs. They left the bases loaded, which should be decisive in the end. The ALLIGATORS tied the contest in the seventh through runs by Christian Nsien and Dominik Wulf. Nsien also drove in the go-ahead run in with a sac fly one period later against reliever Daniel Hinz (L 3-1). They added an insurance run on a botched double play moments later to win 4-2. The UNTOUCHABLES actually out-hit SOLINGEN 11-4.
Hanover Regents – HSV Stealers 6-16, 2-4
The STEALERS travelled to Hanover on Saturday and celebrated two wins to move their record to 7-15, now ranked right before the REGENTS.
They started strong into game one, scoring twelve runs in the first three periods to take a commanding 12-2 lead. Brehan Murphy set the early highlight with a two-run homerun in the first. Alex Harms received the win, Sean Bakuniec took the loss.
The second match was much more thrilling. Andrew White (HSV) and Mike Lantzy (HRG) started and threw three scoreless innings, until a two-run homerun by Ortwin Stotz in the fourth for a 2-0 HANOVER lead. The HSV cut the deficit in the sixth on a RBI single by Thomas Riedner and tied it through Thomas Haugh’s pinch hit RBI single in the eighth. The game went into extra innings and again Haugh delivered. He drove in Brehan Murphy and Peter John Frates with two outs in the tenth to complete the STEALERS sweep.
Dortmund Wanderers – Bonn Capitals 8-3, 20-2
The WANDERERS move into the top four with a dominating sweep against the CAPITALS. They never were really in danger to drop even one match of the doubleheader and brought their record back to the .500 mark. They moved past BONN in the standings into fourth place.
The CAPITALS took a 1-0 lead in game one on a RBI single by Adrian Stommel. However DORMTUND answered right away, scoring four runs in the third to decide the outcome. They added four more unanswered runs till the end of the seventh to secure an 8-3 win. Rene Herlitzius and Andreas Becker each scored two runs. Tobias Willach drove in two. Herlitzius also received the win on the mound, going eight innings, while allowing six hits, three runs (2 ER) and two walks, striking out eight. Mirko Heid took the loss after 6 2/3 innings. He gave up five hits, eight runs (5 ER) and four base on balls.
Game two was as lopsided as it could be. The WANDERERS scored in every of the first six periods, including eight runs alone in the sixth to crush BONN 20-2. Daniel Groer scored five runs, having reached in all of his five plate appearances. Josh Lively hit three doubles and drove in six. Every batter besides Raul Vychodil scored at least once. However the young outfielder had a two-run double. Matt Kemp gave up two runs on four hits and four bb in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out eight in the win. Martin Amparo lasted just three-plus innings, getting charged with six runs (5 ER) on five hits and five walks.
Cologne Cardinals – Neunkirchen Nightmares 10-0, 10-0
The CARDINALS did their job and defeated helpless NIGHTMARES twice by a score of 10-0.
Mo Sckaer pitched a complete game two-hit shutout in game one, striking out ten. The offense was led by a grand slam through Jens Warrelmann (5 RBI total) for a fast 5-0 lead in the first. Chris Bardenheuer took the loss.
COLOGNE also needed just seven innings for the win in the second match. They led already 4-0, when they scored six runs in the sixth and seventh frame to seal the 10-0 victory. Pascal Raab followed Sckaer with his own two-hit complete game shutout. Pablo Reveand took the loss.
