Two Night Games kick off Game Day in German Baseball

Posted on August 6, 2010 by philipp

The German Baseball Bundesliga resumes play this weekend, nearing the end of the regular season. Two game days are left on the schedule, although only make-up game will take place next week. While six of the eight playoff spots are already handed out, the race for fourth in each division is still on.

In the north Pulheim, Dohren, Dortmund and Hamburg battle for fourth going into the final two weeks of the regular season. While the Gophers seem to have the advantage being in fourth and bolstering a 10-14 record, they have the toughest remaining schedule of the four contenders with doubleheaders against Paderborn and Solingen coming up.

The Wild Farmers and the Wanderers follow one game behind and will meet each other on Saturday in Dohren to conclude the regular season for both teams. Additionally the HSV Stealers hope to play a role, having four games left on the road in Cologne and Bonn. They acquired Justin Prinstein to help their cause as starting pitcher in game two.

In the south the Haar Disciples are in fourth place with a seemingly comfortable 2.5 games lead over the Gauting Indians. However when you’re looking at the schedule, the Indians are still right in the middle of the race. They have four games left, including a trip to the 1-23 Neuenburg Atomics and home games against the Mainz Athletics and the Disciples. Haar on the other hand not only has to play in Gauting next week, but also has to travel to Regensburg this weekend to play against the leading Buchbinder Legionaere.
