New field for Mainz Athletics

Posted on January 14, 2008April 9, 2021 by MrBB

Christmas had been a little bit early last year for the Mainz Athletics Baseball Club:
At the end of November, Mainz’ Lord Mayor Jens Beutel announced that a final solution for financing the new sports field has been arranged together with Stadtwerke Mainz AG.

Referring to Beutel constructions will start fall 2008, almost exactly five years after first negotiations concerning a new field for the Athletics had been taken.
Constructions plans for the new field, which is only located about a quarter mile beeline from the German Champion’s current venue, feature a baseball field, which will meet Bundesliga requirements, and a softball field. The latter can be extended into another baseball field to give the possibility to host national and international events. Offices and service rooms, roofed batting cages and a prcatice infield are also on the agenda.

So the Stadtwerke-Arena in Gonsbach valley will become a unique Stadium for Germany, even the Athletics had to deal with some difficulties mostly because of the limited space to put all their ideas into a working concept.
