Last week we reported several transactions by Caffe Danesi Nettuno. We talked about the signing of outfielder Selwyn LANGAIGNE and the extension of pitcher Giovanni CARRARA. However there was some misleading information’s regarding both cases.
General manager Alberto DE CAROLIS talked to baseball.it and denied that deals with both players are already official. He confirmed that Nettuno is interested to bring LANGAIGNE and CARRARA to Italy. But they are not the only ones, who are talking with them.
Both impressed recently at the Caribbean Series for the Venezuelan team Tigres de Aragua. CARRARA threw five scoreless innings against the Mexican team Yaquis de Obregon in his only start. He attracted some interest from Major League organizations, which know him from his time in the big leagues. LANGAIGNE hit .357 (OBP .357/SLG .393) in six games and made the allstar team as a center fielder. He is talking with Mexican Summer League teams about an engagement this season. He was in the Toronto Blue Jays organization in the past.
It would certainly be a loss for Nettuno and the Italian Baseball League if both players chose to play in North America. However DE CAROLIS is also talking to other guys and should be able to replace them if necessary.
