Netherlands continues its dominance with a win over the Czechs

Posted on September 10, 2007April 9, 2021 by MrBB

The Dutch continued their march towards an Olympic berth with a decisive 11-0 romp over the Czech Republic on Sunday in Pool A action at the European Championships.

Shairon MARTIS was outstanding tossing a two-hitter over six innings with eight strikeouts. Ace reliever Duko JANSEN pitched one scoreless inning and fanned a pair of hitters.

The Czech National Team (1-1) managed only two hits and could not duplicate their performance from two year’s ago when they played the Dutch competitively in a 3-0 loss. Jiri MAREK suffered the loss after allowing six runs on five hits in just two innings.

Railey LEGITO led the offensive charge for the Dutch scoring four times and going 4-for-4 with three RBI’s and a home run. Yurendell DECASTER added three hits and Hainley STATIA was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer.

Leading 2-0 after one inning the Dutch scored four times in the second frame to begin the rout. LEGITO slammed a 1-1 pitch to left field for a double and later scored on a wild pitch. STATIA connected for a three-run shot moments later to give the tourney favorites a comfortable 6-0 lead.

The Dutch National team (2-0) completed the scoring with a run in the third and four more in the sixth inning – including a three-run homer by LEGITO – to claim an easy 11-0 victory.

The Dutch will next face Sweden on Monday and the Czech Republic will meet Austria.
