The Italian National Team does not have any big tournaments on the 2008 schedule. However to stay sharp and to prepare for the World Baseball Classic next March, they will play a bunch of exhibitions against Italian Baseball League clubs. The first such game took place on Tuesday May 6.
The National squad under the leadership of manager Marco Mazzieri played against DE ANGELIS GODO and defeated the still winless club 8-2. Cody Cillo started and was followed by eight relievers on the mound for the national team. GODO used Ryan Baerlocher as starter in addition to five other pitchers.
Claudio Signorini hit his first homerun for Italy. James Buccheri had three hits in four at bats. Jack Santora and Davide Dallospedale were two-for-three. Kyle Messineo and Manuel Marussich each got two hits for DE ANGELIS.
The IBL resumes the season on Thursday May 8. The National Team will have their next test on May 20 in Parma against CARIPARMA.
