After Mike Perkins, who helped the Angels to reach the playoffs, returned to the US at the term of his contract, Namur addressed his need for an experienced backstop by bringing over another left-handed hitting Mike.
Mike Benton, from Elk Grove (CA), played 4 years at the top academic and baseball program of the University of California at San Diego. During his time at UCSD, the Tritons made back to back NCAA D2 World Series appearances, reaching the finals in 2010. Benton sure contributed to the success of his college team, posting a lifetime 0.347 batting average in 349 at bats, with 8 homeruns.
In Belgium, the California player will be in charge of one of the best pitching staffs in the league, highlighted by former University of Maine closer Latta and National team players Desmedt and Migeot.
