The Mortsel Stars, currently with a .500 win pct, added a foreign pitcher to their roster. The right-handed pitcher Ryan Van Spronsen from Wagner College (NCAA Div. I, NEC) arrived in the Antwerp area this week.

Van Spronsen, who also garnered Second Team All-NEC accolades, had one of the top pitching seasons in Wagner school history, going 8-1 with seven complete games, a 2.07 ERA with 65 strikeouts over a school-record 100.0 innings of work. The Canadian native, who was recently named as the Wagner College Con Edison Male Scholar Athlete of the Year Award, helped the Wagner Seahawks to wins in nine of his 12 starts. He has been named the 2012 Wagner Baseball Team MVP as announced by head coach Jim Carone last week.

The upcoming weekend Van Spronsen will make his debute in pinstripes against Namur Angels, in one of the games of the 3-game series. All three games, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, will be played at Mortsel at 15h30.
