You could also write that the movie went 0-for-4 last night. Ok, we’re done with the phrases and are only looking for an excuse to post the trailer again anyway. The newest baseball movie “Moneyball”, which still hasn’t fully arrived at theaters in Europe, didn’t win a Golden Globe last night. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association had nominated the movie in four categories (Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture and Best Screenplay – Motion Picture).
In Europe clubs and federations have tried to use “Moneyball” to create interest for baseball with mixed results so far. German fans have to wait until February 2 to see the movie reaching theaters, but thanks to big stars on the film and Golden Globe nominations, they should be able to see it on the big screen. This isn’t always the case with baseball movies in Europe. To create as much attention as possible the Hamburg Knights have initiated a project to bring as many fans into cinemas on February 2. The representation this being a baseball movie is not really correct. It is a movie with a message and a metahphore for sports organisations what one can achieve after having lost key players, a reduced amount of money and lot of patience … in another way. Also how technology has made its inroads in sports in evaluating individual sporters. Why one has chosen baseball as sport for the movie is commercially bizar, probably OK for US … but for Europe a soccer club would have been much more attractive for the audience. For one associated with baseball it is OK, but for sure a bit complicated at times for non-baseball addicts. But surely recommended.
