The three for Monday scheduled Hoofdklasse make-up games again were postponed due to bad field conditions at the competition sites. They are going to try to get them in on Tuesday. It is the opening for the last week of the regular season in the Netherlands. Four teams are already qualified for the playoffs and the only real unclear question is, which team finishes in the third seed.
There was also another decision on Monday regarding the ruling of the KINHEIM versus PIONIERS game from Mai 18, when a brawl ended it early in the sixth inning with the score tied at 5-5. The Dutch Baseball federation ruled first that CORENDON wins the match 2-0. However an independent committee ruled different that the game has to be continued. The KNBSB with President Ruud van Zetten at the top overruled the decision by the committee last week. But apparently this wasn’t the end, as they announced on Monday that they now would respect the ruling of the committee. The game now is going to be continued on Wednesday September 10th.
This also could have an effect on the race for third place in the standings. The PIONIERS, now in third place with a 25-12 record, are going to play five more games till the end of the regular season. The L&D AMSTERDAM PIRATES, who also fight for third, do have just three more matches this week. Both will face each other on Thursday for a potential showdown. KONICA MINOLTA also has the edge in the season series with four wins, which makes them the favorite to finish in third.
