Major League Baseball announced the rosters of teenage players participating in the Elite European Development Tournament, which is being held in the United Kingdom for the first time at the Farnham Park Baseball & Softball Complex, operated by BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK), from Tuesday, June 25th through Thursday, June 27th. The tournament will feature the 90 best teenage baseball players from 13 European countries and the Ramstein U.S. Air Force Base in Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany), including:
- United Kingdom (Great Britain) – Two (2) players
- Netherlands – Nineteen (19) players
- Italy – Seventeen (17) players
- Czech Republic – Twelve (12) players
- France – Ten (10) players
- Spain – Eight (8) players
- Germany – Seven (7) players
- Austria – Four (4) players
- Sweden – Four (4) players
- Ramstein U.S. Air Force Base in Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany) – Three (3) players
- Belarus – One (1) player
- Belgium – One (1) player
- Slovenia – One (1) players
- Switzerland – One (1) player
The three-day tournament, which will feature a scouting showcase for scouts from MLB Clubs, will serve as a showcase of MLB’s Europe-wide elite development program. Over the last eight years, MLB has conducted more than 25 elite development camps and tournaments across Europe in over 15 countries per year. Additional development programs operated by Major League Baseball in Europe include:
- Elite Development Camps: Two-week camps for the top 12- to 15-year-old players. MLB hosts seven to eight events per year in different countries.
- Arizona Classic: MLB brings the top European junior players together as a team to play in this special showcase in Arizona for MLB Scouts and Collegiate Baseball recruiters.
- Coaching Development Program: MLB operates one program per year that focuses on developing European Coaches and Scouts.
The Elite European Development Tournament is part of a week-long series of initiatives designed to commemorate and celebrate, the Mitel & MLB Present London Series 2019, which features the World Champion Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
