The MLB European Academy 2013 will be held from July 31 to August 16 at the Armin-Wolf-Arena in Regensburg, Germany. The Italian Olympic Training Center in Tirrenia was host in the previous years, but now has to step aside for the venue, which hosted Baseball World Cup and World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in recent years.
51 players from 15 countries between 16 and 20 years old, including two from New Zealand will make their way to Regensburg. They were selected and invited following a series of tryouts and the MLB Academies Tournament earlier this year. Germany and the Netherlands will have 11 players on site, Italy eight. Hall of Famer Barry Larkin heads the coaching staff, which also includes John McLaren, Bruce Hurst, Steve Finley and Craig Shipley among others.
Starting from August 5 scrimmages will be scheduled for each day, providing ample opportunity for about 20 scouts from MLB organization, which have announced their attendance at the MLB European Academy. Class room seminars and on-field practices complete the program during the training camp.
