Die Minnesota Twins have released Dutch first baseman Curt Smith according to a report by Honkbalsite.com. The 26-year-old signed a minor league contract with the MLB organization following a strong 2013 World Baseball Classic in March. He was assigned to Double-A New Britain and batted .231/.301/.367 with four home runs, 17 runs and 19 RBI in 45 games. Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2008 he also played for the Miami Marlins organization and in independent league ball in the past.
