Mike Piazza on hand as Cariparma hosts Fortitudo Bologna

Posted on May 28, 2009May 28, 2009 by philipp

Former Major League catcher Mike Piazza is going to throw out the ceremonial first pitch in front of tonight’s Italian Baseball League match between CARIPARMA PARMA and FORTITUDO BOLOGNA. The former New York Met and Los Angeles Dodger is currently in Italy to hold a few practice sessions at the Academy in Tirrenia, to attend yesterday’s Champions League final in Rome between the FC Barcelona and Manchester United (2-0), as well as a press conference for the IBAF Baseball World Cup on Thursday morning (more about it later today).

PARMA is currently in fourth place of the standings and won two of the first three games against BOLOGNA this year. FORTITUDO on the other side recovered after a difficult start into the new season in the IBL and moved into a tie for first place with a series win against TELEMARKET RIMINI last weekend. Tonight’s pitching matchup will be between Jesus Matos (BOL) and Ricky Palma (PAR). The game will be broadcasted by Rai Sport Più and can be seen via live stream on their website. First pitch is scheduled for 9pm CET.
