Recap on Baseball.ca
Brooks McNiven (W 1-0) allowed just one hit in six innings to lead Canada to a 4-0 shutout over the Netherlands. Two base runners were on, but both were erased due to double plays in the first and sixth. A single by Roel Koolen denied the no-no bid by McNiven in the sixth.
The maple leafs took the lead in the third on a RBI groundout by Matt Rogelstad. One frame later they added two more runs through a RBI triple by Emerson Frostad and a following sac fly by Brett Lawrie. Jimmy Van Ostrand made it 4-0 with a RBI single in the eighth.
Besides the Koolen single and Michael Duursma, who had reached on an error by third baseman Rogelstad in the first, Holland only had two more base runners in the game. Bryan Engelhardt worked a walk in the eighth, but was also eliminated through a double play. Percy Isenia led off the ninth with a single, but stayed there, as the next three batters all went down on strikes against closer Tim Burton.
Shairon Martis (L 0-2) gave up four hits, three runs and three base on balls in six innings. He struck out five. Diegomar Markwell allowed one more run on three hits and a walk in three innings of relief.
